Working with Health Tips
Fetch curated health advice for any breed or species. Health tips can be listed, filtered, and retrieved individually for deeper guidance.
List health tips
Use the /health-tips endpoint to retrieve one or more tips. Filter by breed or species,
localize the copy with lang, and paginate with limit and offset.
curl --location 'https://api.thedogapi.com/v1/health-tips?limit=1&offset=0&breed_id=115&include_sources=true&lang=en' \\
--header 'x-api-key: YOUR-API-KEY'
Sample response:
[
{
"id": "ozv1YWSrDa",
"category": "Disease Prevention",
"title": "Monitor for Bloat (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus)",
"description": "German Shepherds are at higher risk of bloat (GDV). Feed multiple smaller meals per day instead of one large meal. Avoid strenuous exercise one hour before and two hours after eating. Consider using a slow-feeder bowl to prevent rapid food consumption. Learn the signs of bloat (restlessness, distended abdomen, unproductive retching) and seek immediate veterinary attention if suspected."
}

Breed 115 corresponds to the German Shepherd, so this example scopes the list to that
breed. Species 2 denotes dogs in the API.
Retrieve a single tip
Supply the health tip ID to fetch one record directly:
curl --location 'https://api.thedogapi.com/v1/health-tips/ozv1YWSrDa?include_sources=true&lang=en' \\
--header 'x-api-key: YOUR-API-KEY'
The response matches the object in the list example above. When include_sources is set to
true, the sources array contains any reference links that support the advice.
Localised health tips
Set the optional lang parameter to retrieve translated tips. Supported values are
en, de, fr, es, and it.
curl --location 'https://api.thedogapi.com/v1/health-tips?limit=1&offset=0&breed_id=115&include_sources=true&lang=es' \\
--header 'x-api-key: YOUR-API-KEY'
Response:
[
{
"id": "ozv1YWSrDa",
"title": "Controle la hinchazón (Dilatación-Vólvulo Gástrico)",

Use lang=de to receive German translations:
{
"title": "Aufblähen (Magendrehung) überwachen",
}
Requesting lang=fr produces:
{
"title": "Surveiller les ballonnements (Dilatation-Torsion d'Estomac)",
}
And lang=it returns Italian copy for the same tip:
{
"title": "Monitorare il gonfiore (Dilatazione-Torsione Gastrica)",
}
Each translation uses the same id so you can confidently localize health guidance for owners and vets while keeping responses tied to a single tip.
